Teaching and Administrative Work: 

  1. Working as a Senior Lecturer in the University of Moratuwafrom 01stOctober 2000 to date. Subject areas include instrumentation, control systems. Mechatronics systems, robotics and automation, object oriented programming using C++, Neuroscience, ANN, fuzzy reasoning and genetic algortihms,. Teaching is conducted in both undergraduates as well as post graduate students
  2. Acting as a senior Lecturer in charge of developing Control Systems laboratory to a Mechatronics laboratory by obtaining donations from Nikini Automation systems (Pvt) Ltd and Siemens Limited by submitting proposals and Constructing Models using industrial waste equipments to demonstrate experiments.
  3. Conducting a short course on “Use of PLC for industrial automation” at Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Moratuwato the engineers in the industry.

Research Interests: 

Research Activities : 

  1. Studied as a doctoral student at Saga University Japanand had a very good research experience. The lectures participated were conducted in English Medium except the Japanese Language classes. The research work was done in English medium and wrote the thesis in English. Thesis title is “Control and Obstacle Avoidance of Multi-Link Manipulators Using Fuzzy Behavior Approach”.
  2. Conducted a project on avoiding obstacle for a mobile robot using low cost sensors with a student from Informatics Institute of Computer Studies that was a very successful research project that was successfully implemented.
  3. Conducted a project on controlling alum and lime dosing controllers for water treatmentas a supervisor for partial fulfillment of a master project.
  4. Conducted a project on automated flow cleaning robot.
  5. Conducted a project on formation of robots with a master and 3 slaves.
  6. Conducted a research project on “Design and construction of multi-dose inhaler”, funded by National Science Foundation. This project wass conducted with the Medical Faculty of Sri Jayawardenapura.
  7. Working as reviewer on IEEE J. of Industrial informatics.
  8. Developing a mobile robot simulator with no or negligible deviations with the actual robot including dynamic friction and slipping.
  9. Conducting Multi-objective optimization of Energy systems.
  10. Designing and development of a control system for Quadrotor UAV.

Education and Training : 

  1. PhD Degree in the field of Engineering Systems and Technology in September 2000 from Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Saga University, Japan.
  2. Charted Engineer at Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka
  3. B Sc Degree Honors in the field of Mechanical Engineering in 1991 from University of Moratuwa

Consultancy Projects

  1. Conducted a modification of S5 Siemens PLC program to run 500ml bottle together with 300ml bottles at CocaCola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd, Tekkawatte, Biyagama, Sri Lanka. The local agent had suggested in getting down a team of foreign experts to conduct this project before I involved in the project (2004).
  2. Replaced an electronic controller by a PLC at Lanka Walltiles (Pvt) Ltd. . (2005)
  3. Obtained short term training on Mechatronics at Singapore in 2006. The training includes pneumatics, PLC systems, SCADA systems and use of SCARA robots
  4. Constructed of printing automation systems at Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. This project basically involving in reversing a VGA (Video Graphic Array) card and was conducted under the supervision of myself (2006).
  5. Conducted a conversion of S5 to S7 controller on the sorting line of Lanka Walltiles (Pvt) Ltd. (2006).
  6. Conducted a conversion of S5 to S7 controller in a printing machine.  (2006).
  7. Design and construction of Electro-Antennogram Detector to the Chemistry Department of Kelaniya University, funded by Serendib Natural Product Limited. This project was conducted under my supervision (2006).
  8. Conducted a modification of S5 Siemens PLC program to run 500ml, 300 ml bottle together with 200ml bottles and 1L bottles on the same line at CocaCola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd, Tekkawatte, Biyagama, Sri Lanka. This is an extension of the earlier project conducted (2007).
  9. Conducted a project to design and construct of a servo controller for the paving machine at Maga Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. This project was conducted under my supervision  (2007/2008).
  10. Worked in a consultant firm as an electronic engineer at NJS (Pvt) Ltd for a period of two and half months. The work involved was to design instrumentation, control and monitoring part for a water purification plant that requires an extension. This work was done together with a Japanese Engineer. (2008).
  11. Constructing and developing an interface unit to interact with USB communication for a game controller under my supervision  (2009).
  12. Constructed a robotic tool kit for Arthur C Clerk Center. Design and development of the robot tool kit was conducted by a recently graduated mechanical engineering graduate, a Lecturer (Contract) in the department of Mechanical Engineering and construction was done by an inventor who works in the capacity of a technical officer.  I supervised and coordinated the project. This robotic tool kit with 10 robots have already been submitted and accepted.  (2010)
  13. Conducted a modification of S5 Siemens PLC program to run 300 ml bottle together with 200ml bottles on the same line at CocaCola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd, Tekkawatte, Biyagama, Sri Lanka. This project was conducted. This project is quite similar to work conducted at 2003 and 2007 but in a different line (2010).
  14. Conducting a consultancy on for reviewing of PLC control program of VFD pumping sets planned to be installed in Negombo Treatment Plant of National Water Supply & Drainage Board.  (2011/2012)
  15. Conducted a consultancy on preparation part of manuals to guide design engineers at National Water Supply & Drainage Board (2011/2012 )
  16. Conducted a project to design, develop and construct a robot control system for Loadstar (Pvt) Ltd(2012)
